Just passed the eCPPT. Great course. Next up is the OSCP. Not sure I will get to it this year though.

I completed the GCIH in the Spring and did study Python like I planned. I have to get the GPEN certification finished early next year and then I’m going to circle around to studying Python and C. Other than that, I’m planning to purchase some computer hardware and put together a pen testing lab 😉

veritas_libertas replied to the topic Language order? in the forum Programming 6 years, 3 months ago
Yowzers. That is quite a pile of languages there. I’ve been told over-and-over that C/C++ are the Latin of programming languages. I’m curious to here if others believe that is the language to start with. If it is, I’ve doing it wrong 😛 I think this is a great question when it comes to learning programming languages.

At this time my interest is in the Network Penetration side. I want to eventually expand, but only after I have a good grasp on Network pen testing.

M0wgli, do you use a lab at home? What’s your approach to learning?

I ended up taking the SEC560 course. Good stuff. Now I just need to get the certification done with. I have to say that I learned a lot, and the SEC504 class that I took last year really compliments it well.

Nice tutorial! I’ve enjoyed the Linux coverage in both the SEC504 and SEC560 classes I’ve taken. When I talk to Linux/Unix admins I’m often dismayed by how they assume it uncrackable.

You might consider ISSA. It’s not specifically forensics, but I know members at mine that work specifically in forensics.

Ah yes, dreaded programming  😛 I actually took a basic C programming course during my Associate degree studies. I could pickup where I finished off at. Would a web language be better to study, or software programming?

Thanks.
Part of my main reason for wanting to pursue the GSEC in the future is a search on Monster.com for security jobs. Really the only GIAC certification that you get when you search for GIAC is the GSEC. I figure for me, since I am not currently in a security role it would be best to hit the most commonly looked for security certifications,…[Read more]

Congratz man! So do you think GSEC can comfortably be challenged without taking a class? Also, do you get study material when you sign up to challenge a GIAC certification?

@chrisj:
Funny that you ask me about South Carolina. I just moved to South Carolina eight month ago from West Michigan. It took me only a week to find a job after moving down. When I first moved down I was being bombarded by phone calls, and e-mails about different IT jobs. It has gotten worse down here since then though, and only in the last two…[Read more]
