^^ Should probably consider some malware scans, password changes, and/or reformats. 🙂

The only suggestion I can give you is to look at ALL the resources Offsec provides to students (not just the specific course pdf’s and videos). They have a wealth of information at your disposal.

Either way I feel like I need to at least try and spread the knowledge of security.

You can also start a blog. 🙂 I just recently started mine ( https://rootisthelimit ). I am going to try to do both red team and blue team stuff on mine. But you can install tools that allow you to track number of visitors so it makes me feel better about getting the security word out!

Depending on your job, you could also do awareness seminars for the community. I work for a consulting company and we do quarterly technology seminars and all client companies are invited. We recently started adding security awareness tips and topics to them.

The money itself isn’t worth the trouble IMHO. It’s something extra, but you really do need to be interested in it from a community perspective, like you stated you are.

I have heard the exact same feedback. I am doing my first mentor session for GPEN the first of the year. Several others have told me they were glad they did one but will most likely not do another.

Have you found any specific good materials to review?

Hard to have this conversation without spoilers for others. 🙂

I can’t elaborate without providing spoilers, but I wish I would have gone through this in advance: http://www.amazon.com/Advanced-Windows-Debugging-Mario-Hewardt/dp/0321374460

Just had my first attempt at the exam and failed so going back through materials. I *think* I know what you are aiming at here.

Thanks greatly for you quick answers and links! I have not been to the last six sites you listed.

The main area I am trying to focus on right now is priv escalation. On many of the lab machines I have low priv shells and am having a difficult time escalating to root/system/admin.

I look forward to seeing your site once it is up!

    Thanks again!
