Also, if you’re considering attending ITT Tech, make sure you ask to see a copy of your textbooks and materials as well. I looked at going there for awhile until I attended an orientation and learned that most of my textbooks were very poorly translated from Korean or something. They were written in broken English and sometimes didn’t even make…[Read more]

…just wondering, how much do you think the new exam will differ from the current one?
In other words what are some new things that wouldn’t be included in my study guides that I should learn before attempting the test?

Wow. I read the title of this and got really nervous. It would sure suck if I went through all this trouble to take the CEH exam and it just disappeared…

I read the Official Review Guide by Kimberly Graves first to get acquainted with the basic concepts and then read Exam Cram 2 to reinforce the concepts I had just studied…it kind of “filled in the cracks”, if you will.

I was in contact with Mile2 for awhile as well. They were always kind of sketchy and dodged my questions, especially when it came to price information. My advice is to be careful.
Also, you should consider looking into CEH; in my opinion, it’s more comprehensive, more recognized, and the EC-Council is a more trustworthy organization.

My security job came from doing routine IT work for a small company. Just start at the bottom and work your way up.

I know of a whole bunch, actually:
CEH Official Review Guide-Kimberly Graves
CEH Exam Prep-Michael Gregg
Counter Hack Reloaded-Ed Skoudis
Hacking Exposed, 6th Edition-Stuart McClureThese are some of my personal favorites. Anybody else know of some that I’ve forgotten?

I think a lot of people just buy their materials through a place like Amazon. The official courseware is pretty pricey…paying $50 for some used books sure beats $690.

Interesting side note- There’s an article in this month’s Popular Science about our Chinese hacker problem. Everyone has been blaming the Chinese government for the attacks on the U.S., but evidently one of PopSci’s journalists has come to the conclusion that the problem isn’t the government, it’s ultra patriotic Chinese citizens and underground…[Read more]

Also as a literary side note, I didn’t feel like Hacking for Dummies really did a great job with explaining the basics. If I were you, and if I happened to be in the market for a good pentesting book, I would look into ‘Penetration Testing and Network Defense’-Whitaker and Newman. It’s basic enough that beginners can understand and technical…[Read more]
