Samsung installs keylogger on its laptops

http://www.networkworld.com/newsletters ... 1sec2.html

As the article discusses, one would think they would've learned from the Sony rootkit incident.  Anybody have a Samsung laptop?

Re: Samsung installs keylogger on its laptops

Thanks for the heads up, I've reposted it to a few security groups on LinkedIn. I really do hope there is a lawsuit. We have to show them that this is unacceptable.

I like the updates, how this may be a false positive.  (See original link above, 2 updates), I also like how Samsung is willing to work with the researchers to show this maybe a false positive too.

I also noted that the article didn't say where either device was bought. Could they be 2 best buys in the same area?

Re: Samsung installs keylogger on its laptops

:o I'll admit, I was very supprised to see this update. I am confused though. didnt the article state that a Samsung rep confirmed the presence of tracking technologies?

"The supervisor who spoke with me was not sure how this software ended up in the new laptop thus put me on hold. He confirmed that yes, Samsung did knowingly put this software on the laptop to, as he put it, "monitor the performance of the machine and to find out how it is being used."

So this is a false positive, but they may have something that is still undetected. Thats what i'm hearing.
