eLearnSecurity Professional vs Professional penetration testing by Thomas Wilhel

Ok, time for another comparison.....

So eLearnsecurity (http://www.elearnsecurity.com ) have released a professional penetration testing course with an emphasis on how to perform a penetration test in a commercial environment including the methodology, documenting process during the test and the composing of a report at the end of the test.

Thomas Wilhelm of heorot.net also released a book last year on Professional penetration testing (http://www.syngress.com/hacking-and-pen ... n-Testing/) which has the same concept as elearnsecurity.

As the book costs $45 from Amazon (Which I believe includes the videos used in the heorot beginner and intermediate courses) and $599 for the course, that is obviously a huge difference and would like to know if anyone has taken both the course and read the book to provide a comparison of what you get in one and not the other or overall which is a better investment? Obviously spending less is an absolute bonus, but then i always live by...”you get what you pay for”

eLearnsecurity's PTP is a new course therefore not many people have attended it. That being said, however, I don't know if any of the member has done the heorot courses except for Jason Haddix who perhaps attended the old version of heorot course. Jason has also reviewed the eLearnsecurity's PTP course and was slated to review the new version of Heorot courses.

As for the book, I haven't bought it but Andrew Waite did a review here http://www.ethicalhacker.net/content/view/277/2/

I saw some parts of eLearnsecurity and I read the Thomas book (two times), the aproach is different. The book teach you many factors like what kind of certification to follow, how to get exp, how to set up your lab, what to do after you make a pentest (how to improve your skills), the videos (they are great, I took the beginneer training too). But it is not a full training like eLearning.

I think both books will help you professionaly. It is not such thing like you buy the book and you done and after that you make a pentest (nop)
