Hey welcome  ;)

If you are interested in a course in the UK, take a look at the course sylabus for Coventry.  IMO its the most interesting sounding Security/Hacking course going in the UK!

I may be on it next year :o

Re: Ethical hacking university course

I know I am going to seem like I am promoting my own school. But East Carolina University has a BS and MS programs in both Networking and Security.
I will be taking a class this summer in Computer Forensics.
It is the one of the few Universities that I know of that promotes Certs as part of the program. Some of the certs are used as part of the grade and others are simply promoted. Here are some of the certs

CCNA- Required for everyone
MCP - Required for everyone
CCNP- Required for Networking students
RHCT/RHCE  - Not required but vouchers are given for free cert testing according to how you do in the class.
A+, Net+ and Sec+ - After completing the lower level IT classes you should be able to pass these. I have not because they are not required and do not want to spend the money yet.

The Forensics class is supposed to prepare me for a cert. Not sure which one this is the first semester it is being offered and class has not started yet. Will post more if you are interested.

I've been looking at ECU for my master's degree. I noticed on their requirements section they require you to have either net+, sec+ or ccna cert for admissions. They do say that you can get this waived with proper experience or by taking their courses.

Have you taken any other courses that might relate to information security or assurance through ECU? I'm having a hard time finding online any reviews of this program.

Re: Ethical hacking university course

I am in my last year here. I am currently taking a special topics credit in Computer Forensics and Investigation. The bulk of my classes up until now have not been hard but have filled my lack of XP and knowledge on this subject.
I would say if you think you have to Sec+ will be the most useful/easy cert to pass if you can not get it waived. Most ppl just study up a bit and are able to pass. I have not met many (competent) ppl who have thought the cert was TOO hard.
The Sec+ class (ICTN 2900) is available online and like most online classes is super easy but full of the basics one would need.

Unfortunately I am scheduled to take the bulk of my Security based classes over the next two semesters.

Sorry for the late response, I have been working on making a step by step instruction manual for my instructor in my Forensics class.

If you are looking at US schools, make sure they are NSA Centers of Excellence. The NSA Center of Excellence standard ensures that the curriculum is up to snuff.

Re: Ethical hacking university course

Reading around the forums, I found WGU(Western Governors University)
http://www.wgu.edu/online_it_degrees/in ... nce_degree

and it looks amazing! I have heard good reviews on this site and on other sites pertaining to the M.S.I.S degree. It is accredited nation wide and you also come out with 6 certifications(including CEH, network+, and half of CWSP) The program is also NSA certified. I am looking forward to taking the class in January!
