Anyone doing Heorot PTF recently..

Hi all,

Am working on heorot PTF disc and have some questions. I've been banging my head for quite few weekends now but it's not cracking up.

Would appreciate if someone who is doing or completed PTF can give a nudge in the right direction.

Thnx.

What back track are you using for the dictionary attack?

This is redundant but you need to use the dictionary list that you have in bactrack 2. I spent 4 days trying to crack the passwords with backtrack 3 and it did nt work until I move to backtrack two and got it in three hours.

As a reminder, the Heorot.net PTE is self-only. Please do not look for help to solve the 1.101 disk, or you will be disqualified from obtaining certification.

Yes, am using bt2 wordlists with bt4 final. Kind of stuck at user enumeration. Have tried several case combinations like lastF, fLast etc. - but these didn't seem to work. Feel the need to know that I am on the right track w.r.t user name enum.

Thanks.

Thanks for the reminder, Grendel. I find your discs very helpful in learning. And at the same time, there is not sufficient (if any) mentorship from your end during the course. Looking at Offsec, I don't see PTF to be making much difference. Offsec guys tell students to 'try harder' and #mentor# them via irc and forums which is great cos it helps us to learn on our own. There's no spoon feeding nor any need for 'reminders.'

If students were already leet as you, they wouldn't come to do PTF in the first place, would they? And PTF mentorship structure misses this point altogether.

In any case, I am not looking for answers here, simply pointers in the right direction to learn and do it myself. I suppose that's what you plan students gaining out of PTF, right?

Thanks.

Grendel, this ain't 'bout getting the cert. It's bout learning. Last time I emailed ya on the same questions, officially, during the course, your response could hardly be called helpful. Nevertheless, am gonna mail ya again.

Thanks.
