vista + linux help

hello again folks
since i really am a new and totally clueless i need tons of help.the more reading i do the more i see people talking about linux for an os and have both on the samr machine.can you tell me the why,how and what i would do with this set up?

Google is your best friend and Ubuntu is probably the best starter Linux distro.  Here you go:

If someone is fine with Windows or whatever else operating system, I wouldn't switch just because other say so. However, it certainly won't hurt if one try out something different. In this matter one might take a look at VMWare or similar software.

Vitual machines are your friend if you want to check out a new OS. VMWare has a free  program called VMWare Server that you can use for trying out a new OS. It's free and easy to use. I have about five different OSes that I play with on top of my host. The nice thing about it, is that it also gives me a "Lab" to play in.

Kevin,

With all the free virtualization software out there, I don't think there is really much reason to dual boot anymore.

Just my 2cents.

You could also download Backtrack and boot from that cd.  This is an alternative way from VMWare.  Just trying to give you other ways of doing this.
