EC-Council ECE System

We will be finalizing our new guidelines for the ECE points system (EC-Council continuing education) this morning (9:15a Eastern).

Does anyone that holds an EC-Council certification have any comments/concerns/etc. with the system that they would like addressed?

Re: EC-Council ECE System

Wanted to give an update for anyone wondering what changes are coming. Keep in mind, these changes are still awaiting final approval but I would hope that everything will stay the same.

For the current ECE information, visit EC-Council.

Education Course (security-related): 1 credit/hour
Higher Education: 1 quarter hour = 10 credits, 1 semester hour = 15 credits
Certification (security-related): 40 credits (unless it's a renewal of your ECC cert)
Seminar/Conference/Event: 1 credit/hour
Speaking/Presenting: 3 credits/hour
Author Article/Book Chapter: 10 credits
Author Book: 40 credits
Association/Organization Membership (chartered): 2 credits/year
Chapter Membership (chapter-based): 3 credits/year
Association/Organization/Chapter Meeting: 1 credit/hour
Read Book (security-related): 5 credits
Case Study/Whitepaper: 5 credits

The rules are still the same, you must earn 120 credits @ a minimum of 20/year within a 3 year timeframe. We are still discussing a time period cut-off (e.g., credits must be entered within 60 days of earning them). The minimum credit rule and any time cut-offs will not go into effect right away.

Any further comments, etc. are more than welcome.

For those of you that will be attending ChicagoCon, I have some great news to share as well - come find me ;)

I forgot to ask you about this, and you never mentioned it to me. Of course I was running around like a headless chicken. So what's the scoop?

Re: EC-Council ECE System

Ok, sorry for the delayed reply on this. I had to make sure that I could post this. That in mind, this is unofficial information until its release.

The CEH certification has been reviewed by IDA and voted on by Joint forces to be placed in 4 of 5 CND categories of the DoD IA 8570 directive. The official announcement is pending DoD's release of Change 2 (expected within a few months). Also being reviewed by IDA are ENSA and ECSA for their placement within 8570 and 2 other architecture areas. I also think that ANSI accreditation is not too far off...

Re: EC-Council ECE System

If I gave a presentation what information would I need to supply to get credit for it?  Giving one on Tuesday and would like to start earning the credits to keep my cert.

Re: EC-Council ECE System

BillV, that all looks good to me. I especially like the points for gaining additional Certification. As far as I can remember, I only got a few points for my GPEN for taking the exam - nice change.

Grinch:
I would suggest stating where you gave the presentation and what the topic was. In the event you are audited, be prepared to show some further forms of evidence to support your presentation.

Ants:
Glad to hear it! Yes, you probably earned 4 points for GPEN (1 credit/hour of exam).

Re: EC-Council ECE System

So where I originally got 2 points for my Security+ exam, two months ago, will I get an additional 38 points when this is made official?

Re: EC-Council ECE System

No. Credits previously awarded cannot be changed under ANSI guidelines.

We cannot take credits away from people that earned a higher amount of credits in comparison to a lower amount in the new guidelines. And just the same, we cannot hand out additional credits.

Well that should give it quite a boost. It certainly seemed to do so for the security+
