Backtrack WiFu - OSWP

This is a new course by Offensive Security for the cert that bears this Board's name, OSWP - Offensive Security Wireless Professional. Great guys, awesome content, and a price that can't be beat!!

Offensive Security Wireless Attacks - Backtrack WiFu
(Available from 3rd Sept 2007)

"Offensive Security Wireless Attacks", also known as "BackTrack WiFu" is a course designed for penetration testers and security enthusiasts who need to learn to implement various active and passive Wireless (802.11 2.4 GHz) attacks. The course is based on the Wireless Attack suite - Aircrack-ng
The course was designed by Thomas d'Otreppe and Mati Aharoni in an attempt to organise and summarise today's relevant WiFi attacks. This course will kick-start your WiFu abilities, and get you cracking WEP and WPA using the latest tools and attacks in no time!

Re: Backtrack WiFu - OSWP

WiFu sounds like an awesome course!  ;D

Wow! d'Otreppe actually designed this course too..  :o

I can only imagine how good this course will be since it's designer is also the creater of aircrack.  sweeeeeeeeeet!

Anyways, I'm sure OSWP will be a great cert to obtain if you're into wifi security.  Can't wait to hear more about it.

Re: Backtrack WiFu - OSWP

Hi. Just wondering is this sort of a precursor to CEH or more advanced than CEH.

THanks,

Re: Backtrack WiFu - OSWP

From the description of the course you can see that it's based on the aircrack-ng suite. The aircrack-ng suite is also described in the CEH course, but I think that the BackTrack WuFi will be in more detail.

Please note that this is just my opinion, I didn't attend the course.

Other opinion is that you can't consider this course as a precursor to CEH, the Offensive-Security 101 course could be considered a precursor to CEH.

Offensive security 101 is superior to the CEH in my opinion.

Re: Backtrack WiFu - OSWP

hey DON you are true... most of the other courses liek CEH and blah blah are teaching outdated ways and softwars and method of doing it . where as OSWP starts from begining and will go on till ur creativity of attack go on , any person who has understood OSWP and has good hold of it , then he will obviously have all WEP's and WPA's cracked and most of them are unknown of securing there WiFi, OSWP gives u both attacks and ways of protection from attackers

Re: Backtrack WiFu - OSWP

It started on September 3, 2007 to be exact!  ;D
(I did a google search!)

It does look interesting!  I have always helped my friends lock down their access points because most of them take it out of the box and say "hey - it works.  If it works - why fix it!".  :o

But - to go indepth on how and why things happen, just makes helping people out more of a purpose for me.  All these tools we have are great in the right hands as well as dangerous in others.  I just cringe knowing what others can do to peoples connections.

I wish I was old/rich enough to retire and create a wifi hardening business.  Then I would knock door to door on the residential places that have weak/default settings (by normal windows findings) and harden their access points for $50 each (unlike a retailer carging over 3X the amount!).  I'd make a killing...until they are all secure!  ;-)

Dang me for not using google! The internet can be so handy sometimes.

Coincidently, there is a pretty recent thread on the subject.

Yes - the Internet is the handiest of all!
Let me know if you plan on taking the course.  I'm very interested in how people rate it as I have this on my 'things to do' list in the future.
