Kali and Virtualbox

Hello, I am wondering if anyone has had trouble installing virtualbox in Kali and if not I would love to hear how you got it installed. Or if you have had issues let me know I'm at a loss right now. Thanks!

Re: Kali and Virtualbox

Ok ill do that. I'm running a fresh install because I was doing a bunch of testing and had BT5R3 installed dual boot. I have no need to dual boot anymore so once I am done with the reinstall ill try virtualbox again and post the error codes thanks for the quick response.

Re: Kali and Virtualbox

I used this tutorial:
http://forums.kali.org/showthread.php?74-Installing-Kali-Linux-as-a-Virtual-Machine-in-Virtual-Box&highlight=virtual

Went fairly smoothly overall. While Kali seems generally better organized, it's very slow on my machine compared to BT 5 R3. Despite giving it more resources than I did for the aforementioned.

Re: Kali and Virtualbox

DragonGeorge,
Kali is the host OS I am trying to install Virtual box with in Kali. That is a pretty good tutorial for the other way around though unless i completely missed something which is very possible.

That is what i get during the install of the program via apt-get install virtualbox

Then after i create a VM I get the following.
Kernel driver not installed (rc=-1908)

The VirtualBox Linux kernel driver (vboxdrv) is either not loaded or there is a permission problem with /dev/vboxdrv. Please reinstall the kernel module by executing

'/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup'

as root. If it is available in your distribution, you should install the DKMS package first. This package keeps track of Linux kernel changes and recompiles the vboxdrv kernel module if necessary.

I tried running the command via apt-get but it doesnt work I am not sure what command to run that with. Also i looked at the documentation and it isn't a supported OS. Any help is greatly appreciated. I'm also going to try to create the VHD on my windows machine and transfer it and see if that works.

Thanks,

Re: Kali and Virtualbox

Have you tried using the latest version of VirtualBox?

Doesn't Apt-get pull the latest version?

Re: Kali and Virtualbox

Well after some research and a lot of playing around I have got it.  here are the steps i needed to take.

Download the latest version of virtualbox from http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualb ... ux_x86.run

then once downloaded i needed to use the following commands
chmod +x VirtualBox-4.2.12-84980-Linux_x86.run
./VirtualBox-4.2.12-84980-Linux_x86.run

After that everything installed correctly and I am not creating the XP VM.

Thanks for all of your help!
