Certification plans for 2014?

Did you achieve all your certification goals for 2013? What are your plans for 2014?

Re: Certification plans for 2014?

remaining 2013 - Plans are to finish up on some projects I'm working on, so I can finish up on some outstanding certifications I started, and never returned to.

2014 - dunno, yet. A lot on my radar, but no decisions, at this point

Re: Certification plans for 2014?

Pretty much none of my original plans from 2013:

OSWP was extremely disappointing and I just couldn't get motivated for it. I really would not recommend this course unless you just wanted to learn aircrack and had someone paying for it.

OSCP - Yeah, I'm not sure if this will ever happen. Personal life just doesn't allow me the time I'd need to be successful.

GXPN - This class is... wow. I learned a lot and discovered I'm really bad at defeating Windows mitigations. I'll probably retake it in another year or 2 but for now most of my research is WAF based stuff, webapp architecture, etc. and I don't have a lot of time to do the deep dive into exploitation and RE that's required.

I added GSSP-JAVA to the mix and knocked that out fairly easily. Learned a lot but retention was poor since I don't do much with Java. I've probably forgotten most of what I learned.

For 2014:

F5 certification LTM/GTM/ASM

Imperva SecureSphere training (not sure if they have a cert)

Any other vendor WAF materials I can get my hands on

Probably a SANS course or 2 or 3 somewhere in there as I have 3 GIAC certs expiring in 2014. Really should do GSE but need to refresh knowledge in some areas that are not my current focus. (My packet-fu is getting rusty) Hard to get motivated for it.

I'm doing lot's of WAF research and hence most of my development activities will be focused there. Also focused on continued development of my python skills as I'm working on some WAF related tools that I have a good understanding of what I want to accomplish but taking my time figuring out the best way to accomplish my goals. So instead of diving in, (I have written some code but it's ugly and I'm not happy with it) I've been working on a WAF bypass documentation project that will drive tool development. I'll announce that site when it's ready for public consumption.
Certifications:
CISSP, CISA, GPEN, GWAPT, GAWN, GCIA, GCIH, GSEC, GSSP-JAVA, OPSE, CSWAE, CSTP, VCP

WIP: Vendor WAF stuff

Re: Certification plans for 2014?

I actually exceeded my 2013 goals. I'm still going to take a stab at OSEE in mid-late December, but I'm not overly optimistic. It's not even funny how far that is beyond OSCP and OSCE. I may have to retake that in 2014.

2014 will hopefully be pretty light. I pushed myself way to hard this year, and looking back, I don't know where the time went. I'm still shooting to finish my degree in the spring since I'm sick of that hanging over me. I might do OffSec's web app course, but nothing else is really jumping out at me at the moment.

Re: Certification plans for 2014?

Man, it really has been a year since the last thread.....

My late 2012 and 2013 goal was to take a lot of classes and get a lot of certs in an effort to get caught up and well rounded. It was mission accomplished as in 2013 I got my GCFE, GSEC, CISSP, CEH, GWAPT and I take my GCIA next month.

While there will no doubt be some classes and certs in 2014 (I'm slotted to take the SANS 560 in February) my 2014 goals are more skills related than cert related. Cert I should definitely grab my GPEN and then I guess the GREM would be the next one on my list but I want to work on my assembly before I go for that.

As soon as I knock out the GCIA I'm going to sign up for Security Tube's monthly plan as I think that will do me a lot of good. I'd love to attempt the OSCP at some point in 2014 but will have to see how my time is as I know that would be life consuming for three plus months.

Also, I would like to say thanks to several of you in this community for the information you've provided and the time you take to answer questions. This site has been invaluable to me over the past 18 months.

Re: Certification plans for 2014?

After a few more networking certs, I would really like to start the OSCP in 2014! I just can't wait! The plan is to do it in the summer.

dynamik, best of luck on this beast of a cert. I can only imagine the sophistication of the skills required to even attempt this.

Re: Certification plans for 2014?

OSCE was the goal for 2013 and I accomplished it. For 2014, not sure yet. I might consider taking an advanced Windows exploitation course, either from Offsec or Corelan. Will have to see.

Re: Certification plans for 2014?

Although I got the CSTA at the end of 2012, and started the PWB course earlier in the year. My plans after that went somewhat awry.

My intention was to extend my PWB lab time (so I could get all the boxes before starting the exam). However, personal life has prevented that so far.

eLearnSecurity also changed my plans with the announcement of the eCPPT Gold exam and the eWPT course. I got the eCPPT (Gold), and I'm currently still working on the eWPT (which I intend to finish this year).

For 2014, I intend to focus on my 2013 goals!

Re: Certification plans for 2014?

GWAPT
OSWE if OffSec plans on releasing an Advanced Web Attacks Online.

Considering WGU for my Bachelors. If I attend, I'll be after the
OCJA, CIW Database Design Specialist, CIW Javascript Specialist, CCENT or CCNA Certifications.

Fell short of my 2013 goals. Can only move forward.
