Re: Certification plans for 2014?

You what, I have a question related to this topic.

Should I "renew" my GSEC certification, given all the other ones I have (see in my signature)? It's more of an intro cert...

I am paying from my own pocket... :-\

I don't know if you've considered the GSE or not, but it was a big consideration for me when deciding whether or not to recert my GSEC.

If you let it lapse, you will have to either retake the exam or have both the GCWN and the GCUX as a substitute.

Thanks Ziggy,

That's basicaly the only reason I found for renewing it. I am not sure I am ready to spend several thousands dollars to get GCIH, etc to finally get to GSE... :-\

Re: Certification plans for 2014?

I had wanted to work on becoming a certified locksmith over the Summer, but ended up taking more college classes.

I did get 2 counter terrorism certificates through my University.

Eastern Michigan University Center for Regional and National Security (DHS / FEMA)
Incident Response to Weapons of Mass Destruction

New Mexico Tech Energetic Materials Research and Testing Center
Incident Response to Terrorist Bombings program – Awareness Level

Oh, and I got an amateur radio license. (Ok a lot of not related to ethical hacking stuff this year).

Goals for 2014: get my Prior Learning Assessments done, so I can skip half the classes I have left to take. I want my degree. then I'll worry about cool stuff like certs.

Oh and maybe that locksmith cert. :)

Do it! If you get your GSE, you'll be able to renew everything with a single $399 exam every four years. That'll be cheaper in the long run ;)

Also, I love that people are working on soft skills, college classes, and cool stuff like becoming a locksmith. There is so much more to this industry than technical certs.

I passed CCENT which was an accmplishment. it looks like i'm moving into a infosc position so ideally i'd like to look into the GCIA, Snort CP, CCNA Security.

I passed eLearnSecurity Gold which was a free upgrade. I am currently doing the WAPT Exam so fingers crossed I pass that. Then next year I going to be doing Tiger QSTM and PWK and maybe another eLearnSecurity course depending on funds and work.

Re: Certification plans for 2014?

Just got the email, and OSEE is officially down. I started Friday at 7am and went to Monday at 3am. I got about nine hours of sleep total during those 68 hours; it was brutal.

Don seemed open to publishing a full review of the course and exam, so stay tuned for more details later (after I recover).

I think that makes my official 2014 list: finishing my degree, OSWE (if I can swing BlackHat), and CRISC.

Re: Certification plans for 2014?

Completed in 2013:
-OSCP
-HP ASE (Networking)

For 2014:
-SLAE (already started in 2013)
-OSCE (...and that's enough pain for 2014!)

I did recently book AWAE at Black Hat. I'll probably limit 2014 to that and my degree. CRISC isn't really a priority, and I'll push that to 2015. After the OSWE exam, I think I'm going to need an extended vacation from 2+ years of OffSec training.
