Where are you from?
«
on:
December 30, 2012, 03:59:25 PM »
Hi everyone,
I have been a member of EH.net for almost 3 years now. I have "known" some people here for quite some time now. But I have only met an handful of you guys so far at conferences (alucian, ajohnson, Don, and another one I forgot the name...).
I know Don lives in Chicago and personally, I am from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
So I am curious, where are you from?
We should create a EH.net map from people around the world.
But maybe Don could do just that, based on our IP addresses...

Why don't you just write a script to harvest the "location" field from everyone's profile?

@ajohnson: Look at chrisj's answer on this thread and at his profile and you'll understand why...

In addition, a whois query on the website field.

That would assume that the website field is populated.
Remember, the original purpose ajohnson referred to, for suggesting a script, was to create a map of user locations for members. If specific data doesn't exist, it can't used in order for the user to be mapped.
But technically, that would also include the same for the location field...

Oh man, that could be nasty!
Too bad I don't have time for this now... I am still working on my Web Service scanner project. I made good progress lately, but I have invested way to much time in this so far. So I don't feel like writing another script right now (although it's tempting...)
