G'day guys and gals, upgrading my laptop from an
Asus Pro31F
which boasts;
Intel Core Duo T2350 1.86Ghz, 2MB Cache,
(2X512MB) 1024 MB DDR2 Expandable to 2048MB DDR2,
120GB SATA 5400RPM Hard Drive,
Intel Shared Graphics 950,
Optional Floppy Disk,
Built in Dual Layer DVD Burner,
15.4" Colour Shine with WXGA (1280 X 800) Resolution,
10/100 LAN, Bluetooth V2.0 +EDR and Wireless 802.11 a/b/g, 1xExpress Card slot, 4xUSB V2.0 Ports, 1xVGA out, 1xS-Video, 1xFirewire IEEE1394

and replacing it with either a....

what are peoples thoughts on this...? The main difference obviously is that the first one is a all-in-one computer and the other is a notebook the other would be that one is slightly cheaper being a couple of hundred dollars then the other.

No experience with the All In Ones from Dell. When they do new stuff like that it makes me nervous. I like to stick to their tried and true business lines. However, it looks pretty awesome and the specs are not bad.
The only thing I would recommend for which ever you end up going with is to bump that 4GB to 8GB of RAM. If you want to pound a bunch of VMs at once, that will come in handy.

Oh yeah I would definately ugrade my RAM to 8Gb, it would be stupid of me not too.

Decided to go with the hp, have upgraded the ram and the system is running vm's like a dream

Can't recommend HP's for anything. Ever since the big Nvidia chipset meltdown and ensuing PR disaster. Watch the heat.

Hp after about 2 years alway seem to have trouble with their main board not too sure why.
