I downloaded backtrack 5 for hacking.
They advised me to hack virtual machine for practice.
However, I am owning a sole netbook and that is close to impossible.

Can anyone give me any viable suggestions?
Also, does anyone know where I can hack legally for money?
Experimenting with cracking wireless is all I have done so far.

Well using a netbook for such things is quite not viable. You could either buy a notebook (I'm working with Acer for about 8 years now) or you could try some online labs, like the "Coliseum web app security lab" provided by elearnsecurity.com.

Depends on how much knowledge you've got in detail.

Regards.

The age old question...  Anyway there are a number of online sites that host hacking challenges and such.  A quick google search for "Hacking Challenge websites" will give you some decent results.  HackThisSite.org is a popular one.  Many of the sites are going to focus on Web App testing.  If you want to test against anything else you will need to invest in a box that could run a lab.  Doesn't need to be a high end quad core 16GB RAM beast but a couple gigs of RAM and a decent CPU will work.

This is a profession that really requires a bit of investment on the part of the hacker if one expects to go far in the job.  Many of us do it because we love it and the money is an excellent perk.

You could install a baremetal instance of Samurai WTF http://sourceforge.net/projects/samurai/ and hack away at the included vulnerable web apps. Don't need a powerful computer to do that and no VM required. Just means you would be running it as your only OS but it's one way to learn.
