Hi all, it looks like its time for me to transition from the military, and I am looking for a job, in the interest of fairness, I will say I am expecting to be available at the end of January or February. If anyone is recruiting or has any positions that I may be able to fill, please feel free to PM me for contact info.

A little about myself: self-starter, highly motivated about technical work looking for an SA/NA or Security position I have knowledge/experience with systems administration including troubleshooting, Active Directory, OS Support os XP-W7/W2k3-2k8, visualization technologies (VMWare)
Network Administration-experience deploying and troubleshooting Cisco network devices (mainly switches, in my career, Routers and ASA in lab, not sure if I need to make a point of that)
Information Security-Familiarity with STIG requirements, experience with vulnerability scanning and remediation for computer vulnerabilities. Familiar with Retina, Nessus, and Nexpose software. Taken courses in intrusion detection and incident handling.

Resume attached below. I'm looking for positions ideally in FL,GA, MD,VA. in that order, but I am willing to relocate worldwide. A question I would have for you all would include what kind of position should I be looking at with this set of skills? What would be a reasonable salary request? Thanks for your time.

Are you US based?  If you have experience in InfoSec and a clearance, you shouldn't have a hard time getting work with the Gov or Gov contractors.  Can't look at your resume at the moment, but I'll take a gander later tonight.

Steph,

Depends on what you are looking at, I went through your CV. You have impressive credentials.

In the fear of scripted word file (I opened in wordpad Tongue)

I do have to tell you, who we are - We have a niche of it's own kind. In order for us to sell, we need to find the right market. I suggest you become a little more aggressive on linkedin. Join groups etc.

In the end what I saw what got me a job, and an array of contracts - When I directly reached out to HR people and became persistent. I started picking up the phone and started calling them.

I saw these HR people are the most ridiculous people. Those b*^&#$@ don't even know how to weigh a resume. So you have to be persistent and you let them know that you are really looking forward to work for them.

It is only then, they take the pain of forwarding your CV to Operations and in the end you get a possibility of an interview.

If you follow the above path. You will have a job offer(s) in hand within a month. Mind you I followed the above and had three and it was hard to choose which one to take.

My best wishes for you. Good Luck.

Cheers!

Hi

Sorry forgot to add.

You can easily secure a position of a Team Leader or a Team Manager. (Considering the way you phrase your paragraphs you can secure a higher position easily)

Don't go to bigger companies yet. The possibility of current global meltdown - Would make you start looking for a job again. A mid-size company is recommended. Infact they would value you better.

Since you have military background - You should have no problem at all.

Companies would infact welcome you.

Cheers!

Hi Seph,
If you don't mind relocating, there are plenty of positions
in Maryland (Ft. Mead) and Arizona (Ft Huachuca). The positions are Sys Admins with an emphasis on security. There are also positions such as (HBSS) Host Based Security Systems Administrator and IA Specialist.
With your military experience and clearance you won't have a problem finding work.
Good luck.
