connection problem

so i'm having problem with my local network now, sometimes it isn't connected to the internet, but the network manager

itself states 'internet access' and not 'no internet access'

the thing is, even though my connection went down, i was able to chat with someone else using an already logged in

text-based online messengers, and yes i've tried pinged google and almost any local websites and it said Request Timed

Out

that aside i've been able to manually reconnect for a short period of time whenever this happens, either restarting

modem or doing a quick run wizard from the modem itself.

is there any possibility of ARP attack on this one?

oh and can i ask another unrelated question here?

i'm also curious about the fact of Request Time Out i've gotten instead of Destination host unreachable when i usually

got error from my ISP

even while i'm writing/posting this, i'm still suffer from those 'attacks' please moderate anything which is necessary

i've edited the first post, sorry for the hassle, i was also under that 'attack' yesterday when posting that..

can anyone help?

i'm asking this here because i'm quite sure about 90% this isn't come from the ISP, right now no one is currently online on my network and i can do anything just fine, several users also start complaining to me about this problem

I think it could be as simple as your ISP having problems with their networks, or that your modem has trouble connecting to the main central in case you have a low quality signal, then you experience problems with your Internet on occasion, sometimes quite often.

It could also be that the local net is overloaded perhaps, it really depends on which country you're in (the technology they use, and cables too), if it's common these problems occur, what kind of tech the modem use (Cable TV, Phone Lines, or Fiber?), and well since it seems like it's the modem causing troubles I don't think it's your computer.

If you're running your Internet over a Cable TV line that has a low quality signal it's quite common to experience periodical problems. Phone lines are less likely to experience it this often, except during peak hours or when major things occur so the phone lines are perhaps full.

Fiber? Haven't heard of major problems with that yet, except when someone accidentally cuts open a cable

it is phone line, i don't quite get it but the connection is split up between internet and phone connection through splitter

then again, is it correct if i soft/hard restart the modem, then it will work normal again for a short period of time? i also find it funny when i'm alone the connection works just fine

edit :

i've just test an internet connection if i'm alone and it works fine, and then i ask my friend to turn on his pc and see if we got the problem, and yes we got it, even w/o doing anything, is there any of ip conflict in this one? does setting the modem to factory settings help?

If it happens only when your friend's computer is turned on then:
A) Your friend's computer is perhaps, infected with malware that sends our bad arp requests.
B) The modem is broken
C) There's a general IP-address conflict on the network which can maybe be seen with e.g., Wireshark
D) Your friend's computer is sending packets to the modem that it doesn't understand so it experiences a Denial of Service condition. (Alternatively, the modem could be of poor quality so that it can barely handle any traffic.)
E) Something I forgot perhaps xD

Main differences between Destination Host Unreachable and Request Timed Out:

DHU - no way to route to host, either the router that services the request (typically gateway) is down or your Network card is having some problems. Basically the request you sent can't seem to find a valid route to the host. So basically a routing issue one way or another.

RTO - you can route out to the host but it is not responding to your request. It could be that it blocks the traffic you sent the request on or the host is offline.
Basically the route to the host is good, but the host is down or simply doesn't want to respond.

about the RTO part, if it does blocked by Router itself/somehow Router deny the connection, is there a chance that sometimes it will reply back?

something like this?

this is what happen in my case, it mostly RTO but in some interval it will reply back for 1-4 second, and back to RTO again

and after recheck, seems like this is router error, but still not sure the cause of the problem
