C|EH v8 earns ANSI 17024
«

It's official, the newest version of C|EH (v8) has earned ANSI accreditation.
More information about achieving this milestone is available in the
EC-Council Pressroom
.
Quote
Jay Bavisi, Co-Founder and President of EC-Council, added, “We have worked hard for over 2 years to meet the stringent requirements of ANSI 17024 standard. We have scrutinized and challenged every aspect of EC-Council certification activities and operations. This has resulted in significant improvements to both what we do and how we will do it. This benchmark of excellence will give our customers even more confidence in the quality of our certification”.
I can personally vouch that they indeed have worked on this for 2 years. I have been involved with a variety of panels constructing the exam and a lot of work has been put into it.

It must feel great to see such a long-term effort pay off.
Congratulations!

So are there any benefits of ANSI accreditation for individuals considering the certification?

Just knowing that it's accredited I guess.
Press release:
Quote
“This achievement highlights EC-Council’s commitment to offering a high quality certification program. The ANSI accreditation process is designed to increase the integrity, confidence, and mobility of certified professionals and creates value for all the stakeholders including certification holder, employer, public, and regulatory authorities.”

The issues that ISO 17024 tackles can be summarized as:
Defining what it is you examine (the competencies)
Knowledge, skills and personal attributes
Examination must be independent
Examination must be a valid test of competence

I imagine it's similar to attending an accredited program at a university vs a non-accredited program at another university - accredited programs are looked upon in a better light.

Some employers may only offer reimbursement for education programs if the organization is accredited. So this can be a good thing if your employer won't send you to training classes like SANS but will pay for college programs, mainly because the many colleges are accredited organizations.

Right, for a small subset of their certifications:

Pretty sure they are working towards others

Yep, not all of them. Thanks for clarifying. Just like not all of EC-Council programs are ANSI yet.
It's good to see these organizations taking quality seriously though, I just wanted to address the post by 3xban that seemed to indicate that SANS had not received this designation yet.
