Just got my email from CompTIA, looks like I passed the CASP in May. Has anyone else taken it?

Passed here too..
Felt it was a fun test.. I liked it.
We will see if it becomes the middle test they want it to be.

I agree, it is nice to see a test that isn't just a regurgitation of junk you will never use. Wish I knew more about how they plan on grading it and what the final test looks like, I felt there were a lot of questions that were a matter of preference.

I just signed up, as CEH is my next targeted cert. Can't wait to get started on it.
Anyways, I got my notification on the CASP exam as well. I already hold a CISSP. The test was grueling, but I passed the first time around (still felt like I failed when I walk out, though). The CASP was worse. It was a much more technical exam that actually seemed to hit topics that would come up in the average security-concerned engineer's work day. I'd like to see this certification become an alternative for those working in highly technical career fields (like the group I just started to manage). I think this cert would be excellent for the entire team.
I really wasn't expecting much after the Security+ exam (joke). I'm glad CompTIA stepped it up a notch. It'll be interesting to see where this goes.
One complaint is that I wish they'd enforce the experience time like ISC2 does with their application process. Just taking the test should not be enough. You should be able to prove that you've been working in security for a set amount of time. That would make this cert a lot more valuable, while weeding out the riff-raff that are good at memorizing answers (ie: Security+ exam questions all over the internets...).

The application and verifying work history process won't weed out the riff-raff.. But a good practical exam would! The hands-on approach is always best. I have to agree (with probably most here) that multiple choice questions alone (if at all) will not tell you if someone is a good "Security Practitioner" or not..

Im in the middle on the experience requirement. I mean the CEH is one example of what happens when a company has no real experience requirement. I am also a fan of a challenging technical exam.
I'll admit these posts are piquing my interest.

This has sparked my interest as well, since I am needing some sort of middle ground myself. I have recently passed the Security+ but only have general NOC experience behind me so I can't really sign up for the bigger certs at this time.

Exam Objectives hold quite a few similarities with the CISSP CBK's.
I guess you couldn't wrong with the CISSP All-in-One Exam Guide by Shon Harris:
