As promised....
Now I can finally concentrate on my degree (for the moment). This was straight forward as they come, very comparable to a CompTia exam. OK, there were 125 questions and three hours to complete it. You will find you have way more than enough time to complete this. They did give me a score. The passing score was 70% which equates to 83 correct answers to pass. I got an 81%. The questions weren't long and drawn out, in fact they are short and concise. I only had a few Linux based questions and not many more Microsoft related ones. There were many network related, hashing, SQL and other types of exploits. They didn't go into much depth about tools but more so how to defend against DDOS, Smurf attack, Brute Force attack, SQL injections, and Pings of Death were some off the top of my head. There were several scanning related questions and types of scans as well.
I used many resources for this. I read Hacking For Dummies, Hacking Exposed 5th Edition, EC-Council's Official Courseware (3.0), Hacking Exposed CBT videos.
I highly doubt today's hackers/crackers use the Ping of Death...seems a bit antiquated to me. I received like one legal issue of hacking. The question was just regarding which law would be breaking if you did X. By the way the 31st is the last day to take version 3. The difference between 3 and 4 is that 4 has pen testing questions and material as far as I know.
The funny thing was I drove and hour and a half away to some Vo-Tech school when I was ready to take the exam they were having a tornado drill. I nearly $%^& my pants since I never had to do one. I thought there was a real one coming by, but the faculty person just laughed and said it was a drill. I felt like I took this in a tin can with a camera and a computer it was that small. I was impressed that the high school students that walked by knew I was taking an exam and they made sure to be really quiet. Who says kids these days don't have respect???

Thanks! I did the CEH self study nut not sure about that one. I will either do my CCNA, MCSE upgrade or Sec+. I am definitely going to put more effort into college at the present time. What about you, what are you going for?

How can I find out how many people currently hold the CEH certification?
Don't you have to recertify for the CPTS?

I am not sure if we need to recertify for CPTS.
The question is how to get this certificate first time without a classroom training and with self study.
thanks

Directly from the Technical Director of EC-Council, he states that:
"We have certified around 6,000 people worldwide, but this number is increasing very fast."
As for CPTS having to recertify, I'll get that answer for you. Probably next week.

I took the CPTS-Beta-Exam in August. At that time I tried to get some answers from a guy at mile2, one of them was:
.) will a recertification be necessary
Answer:
Not presently, but there will probably be some kind of continuing education
element at some point.
BTW, when I asked for a time frame for the results of the beta by email, they told me that I passed and that the results will be out soon at prometrics. So it seems that I'm one of the very first to hold that certificate

Congrulats pcsneaker to be the first in CPTS certification.
Are CEH and CTPS certifications at mile2 and eccouncil are different certification?
Is it necessary to go thru the class room training for CTPS or one can study with self study also and take the exam?
thanks

CEH and CPTS are different and independent certifications.
There is no need to do any classroom study (I never did). Quote from mile2:
Quote
The CPTS BETA examination trial is now complete. The final exam will be released late November 2005. The examination fee will be $165.00 once released. We are taking advance orders for only $85.00. To receive this discount exam fee you must express interest in the exam BEFORE it is fully released. You will not be charged until the release date and we will confirm your order at that time.
Details:
http://www.mile2.com/CPTS_Exam_Registration.html
So as you already passed CEH perhaps you could just try this exam without any further studying.

Thanks pcsneaker for your reply.
One more question: any idea as what is the reputation of Mile2's CPTS certification?
thanks

I applaud the participation, but any way we can start a new topic, since this has moved away from discussing 'I Passed CEH!' I think it still fits in our Study Group, though you can feel free to add it to the CPTS forum if you like.
Thoughts?
