Has anybody seen or read this book, Gray Hat Python?
http://amzn.com/1593271921

I'm tempted to get it, wanted to see if anyone else has any input.

Thanks!

Just ordered it, should arrive today or tomorrow.  In the Sec542 SANS class I was at recently, Python seemed to be a really robust platform for scripting, and I've wanted to learn a new language for a while... Python seems pretty easy, we'll see.  Might take me a while to get in to it, but I'll try to keep you posted!

Don, I swear I did a search before I posted, but I didn't see that book review.  Tongue

rance, I'm looking forward to hearing your experiences with this book. Smiley

Thanks for the input, chrisj. I've already been programming Python for a little while, and I've never written any security software. It seems like a good place to start.

Well, I wish I had seen that review before hand.  Just after thumbing through the book, it's certainly now what I was expecting.  I was looking more for "how to code pen-test-like tools"... but it seems much more focused on debugging and fuzzing windows DLLs and drivers, and there's a short bit on hooking dlls.  The subtitle of the book is "Python programming for hackers and reverse engineers"... I think they should take out the "hackers and" part, and it'd be more apt.

That being said, i'm probably never going to use this book.  If anyone is interested in it, I'll ship it off to you at a bargain price + some shipping.  PM me if you're interested...

I'm in the same boat as rance here, except Ryan Linn's review has kept me from buying that book Tongue  I've been anxiously waiting for "Coding for Penetration Testers", sounds great.
