I would check in to this: http://site.infosecmentors.com/

Don't know if it is still active or not. I kind of dropped out of the whole game. I think the guy they paired me with was out that way. In one of the Carolinas. but we had a failure to launch.

Why don't you try finding someone to mentor? You're far from a newbie, so you should be at a point where you can research and find answers yourself (and you know you can ask here if you get stuck). This skill, along with critical thinking, is extremely important for any infosec-related job, so the sooner you can fly on your own, the better.

Having someone depending on you to explain something complicated to them in a way that they will understand really forces you to gain in-depth subject matter expertise and pushes you past your boundaries. That's why I love participating in forums like these. Someone may ask a question that I partially know off the top-of-my-head, but I'm not comfortable answering until I research/lab it. Everyone benefits in this process.

Have you taken your GCIH exam yet (sorry, I've been away for a bit). If you score 85% or better, you can mentor the course. You only need to be able to pull four (I believe) people together for it. I think that'd be a great experience for you.
