I would recommend python, I'm learning it now, as well as teaching my teenage son at the same time. Check out this site: http://inventwithpython.com/ It teaches the basics by having you create games with python, its very well done and keeps both my son's interest as well as my own. On the site you can either buy the book or just read the free e-book option, I'd definitely recommend it.
