So i've been in IT for a few year, and have at least had an interest in security for most of it, but i've never attended a con. I've wanted to for a number of years now and I think I will within the next two years. The question remains, which one?! I don't want to go to a con and be way over my head on the tech talks so i think BH is out of the question. Thoughts and suggestions?

It really depends what you are looking for.

I personally went to Defcon twice and liked it. They have 5 different tracks, so it is easy to find subjects you like. There, you can learn from a wide variety of topics, ranging from lock picking to malware analysis. In addition, it's only $140 USD.

But again, it depends what you are looking for...

Well, primarily I would just like to attend one, meet people, play war games, ect. Learning during the tracks is also very important.
