Wow again, you keep getting the good stuff.

However, side question somewhat related. How does a person know if the CISSP is even right for them? I mean I have several books that at the time I thought the cert sounded cool, only to find out after reading into it some I didn't want it. The CCDA comes to mind.

Nope, not much help at all really. I could do a long response, but it boils down to.

I like doing the tech side, with very little desire to be management. So is the CISSP even right for me?

The CISSP is right for anyone working in infosec for one very simple reason. HR drones are morons and don't know the difference between infosec management, firewall administration and penetration testing and they all recognize CISSP as "the information security cert". Will you learn skills useful for your job? Maybe, that's debatable but you will probably get an interview.

Getting past the interview will be the issue. The CISSP or any other cert will do you no good if you can't do what it says your suppose to be able to do. There is no substitute for experience.
