Botnets for good?

I was just pondering the topology of botnets and it came to mind that there must be some kind of administration tools out there that the bad guys use to control thousands of computers simultaneously. It made me curious if anything of the like has been used for internal business?

Maybe all I'm thinking of is a simple client-server software that provides administration functions, but the idea of a botnet in this context is intriguing.

Botnets evolved from the original bots which were used to automate tasks on the IRC. Any piece of technology which can be used for ethical tasks can be used to perform malicious tasks too. The same thing happened with botnets. http://threatpost.com/en_us/blogs/root-botnet-epidemic-113009

So could things like Folding@home and SETI@home technically be considered botnets?

Well SETI@home is not a botnet .

Botnets does not come on your will .

They just sneak their way in and SETI@home is a great example of GRID Computing
