Anyone know much about this? I haven't heard much about it, but it seems pretty damn cool from the daily topics!

If you live near a major city where SANS conferences are held, the work study program is A LOT of fun and you get the course and certification for $800!

Yea, a lot of people don't know about this. I actually applied for Security East 2011 earlier today.

Are you serious?! That's where I facilitated last year SecEast 2010, New Orleans!

Depending on my situation, I may be there next year as well...

Interesting. I was approved for the GCIH, but I had to skip it because I had to be on-site with a customer that week. Are you from the area? I'm in Baton Rouge.

Jackson, MS

It was a fun week. John Strand instructed the 504 class. He did a mass CTF Thursday night with a big cooler full of beer. It was a good time. Although, the hotel didn't run the heat in the convention hall all week, so it was freezing the whole time!

Hopefully, I'll be able to make it this year, and we can go grab a beer or something! There's a great brewhouse on Decatur.

Aw, I'm jealous.

Even if it doesn't work out at the event, we're only a few hours apart. It doesn't look like there's much in between us, but maybe we could find something halfway and meet up sometime. I'm swamped the next couple of months, but I hope my schedule will lighten up later on (/optimist).

I'll be applying to facilitate this course in Orlando next year just as soon as they post details for the conference. 660 looks absolutely phenomenal and slightly intimidating coming from Stephen Sims. That guy is a mutant. (but in a good yet scary way) I did 560 as a facilitator in 2009 with a guy from DOD and Ed as instructor and had a blast. I highly recommend the SANS volunteer program and would go that route again even if work was willing to pay for the whole course. Conference + 4 months of ondemand + certification attempt + some of the best networking opportunities with the most amazing minds in security for 800.00? Yes please. Just be prepared for 10-12 hour work days and you'll probably have to stay in the conference hotel. (more money but still worth it)
