Hi,
I am planing to enroll for PWB (Penetration testing with Backtrack) from offensive security. I need to know if its a good one to have on resume or should I rather go for CISSP??  Huh
I have been working as a firewall specialist in a Cisco dominant environment for the past 6 years. Now, I am planning to get enrolled for either Pen-testing with Backtrack from Offensive Security or ISC2's CISSP.
I am more into technical side of things, that is why a bit inclined towards PWB, but wondering if it has a good credibility like CISSP.
I wonder if you guys can throw some views on it.
Thanks.

Welcome to the forums.

The CISSP is probably the single most influential infosec cert there is. The OSCP is respected within pen testing communities, but it's not going to have the broad appeal that the CISSP does. Also, a lot of non-technical customers like seeing (and occasionally require) things like CISSP, CISM, etc., even though there are much more relevant pen testing certifications.

PWB, eLearnSecurity, and SANS 560 are all excellent courses on the pen testing side of things.

I'd agree with dynamik...

IF you're looking for the one with the most visibility to most companies and interviewers, etc, CISSP is the way to go.  It does have a broader appeal, in that it's very well-known and deals with much more of the 'political' side of things, etc.

If you're looking for the technical knowledge, and hands-on experience in pentesting, then PWB would be more the direction to lean.

It's ultimately a matter of what you're truly looking to accomplish, and the direction you want to go.  I can tell, you, also, that CISSP will likely take more time in study and prep, and you really have to think more like the 'professional' and less like the 'tech' in order to pass it, from what I've been told.  I've gone through some self-study materials for it, and seen some self tests, but haven't, yet, certified for CISSP.  But based on what I'd seen, I'd tend to agree with that stance.

thanks dynamik and hayabusa...
appreciate your views...

well I like the technical side of things... even though of my monotonous job nature (designing, implementing and troubleshooting pix/checkpoint firewalls)... I would like to learn the other side of coin, penetrating it! I want to increase my horizon to this other side...
So, I think I am gonna register for PWB v3 from offsec.... moreover based on the googling, searching through forums and of course hayabusa's feedback, I feel it won't take longer to be through with it (PWB) as comparing to CISSP.....
and as far as CISSP is concerned (and with respect to market value), I have my boss willing to sign it for me... So, I can always think later about it...
as soon as I am through with PWB, the next would be CISSP...

and ya currently am seeing the reviews of eLearnSecurity....
thank you.
