Not really a 'certification' but something I've been looking closely at, and finally applied to a month or so ago...  Awaiting confirmation.

Anyone else already involved?

Was this post inspired by the recent thread on the pauldotcom mailing list? Wink

Sometime soon when things wind down for me a bit I'm supposed to speak at an Infragard/ISSA chapter. There were a lot of rumors circulating about Infragard (http://cryptome.org/0001/fbi010810.htm and http://blogs.villagevoice.com/runninscared/archives/2008/02/hunter_students.php) which make me a bit hesitant to join considering "they don't get it" at the end of the day. LEO groups are very shortsighted and can horribly misconstrue something so me personally, I wouldn't join the group.

I know many members and speak with them from time to time when they want an outside view of things that they can't grasp. Some are a very scary bunch where one can't even joke with them out of fear of them wanting to be "the next big e-Cybercop. Because I post from time to time on Shadowserve and other groups I follow and am on, I see the cool ones but I also see the horrible "dipshits"

Eventually I will get around to speaking about VoIP and toll fraud at one of these conferences. I just like to keep to myself though to be honest (imagine that). When slash if I do, for those in the northeast, I will make it known in case anyone wants to hang out. (Provided they are not living in Louisiana, anyone except the Bayouers!).

@dynamik - Nope... Somehow I missed that one.  I actually applied a few months ago, and am awaiting the approval, after a friend of mine had done it, some time back.  I just hadn't had time to really look closer at it, until recently.

My LinkedIn page contains more information than their application requires (minus my SSN, which could trivially be correlated with my tax returns). I wouldn't be surprised if I was on any list like that long before I applied simply because I'm in the industry.

The one down here actually does some cool things (I'm sure the group will vary by location though): http://tigertrap.org/

Edit: Ah ok, there were some complaints over how long the process was taking. Some people said it took about six months for them to get accepted. Mine only took 3-4 weeks. I just applied about six weeks ago, so I haven't done anything with the group yet.
