Why not do the GSEC instead of Sec+ for the waiver?

I believe the GSEC is a better preparation than the Sec+ for the CISSP. Now, I don't yet have my CISSP, so I may be off base, but the GSEC materials line up better with the CISSP domains. And I'm pretty sure the GSEC qualifies you for a one year waiver as well.

I can think of 3K+ reasons to do the Sec+ right now  Smiley Smiley

It is expensive if you do the training, but I would argue the GSEC is pretty attainable by self-study and challenging the cert. Now, the cert is still more expensive than the Sec+ cert, but I think there is more value to the GSEC than the Sec+.

The Sec+ is not a bad cert, though...I'm not trying to discourage you from it. I'm just pointing out another option.

Good luck!  Cheesy

I plan on taking the CISSP in Dec this year. Get a one year credit for having the Sec+ cert is definitely a plus.

One word on the topic of this thread, Certs only mean you passed a test, it doesn't mean you can apply the material in the "real world". Focus should be placed equally on gaining experience. After all, if you don't get hired in the security space and your cert skills go years before being applied, its not going to help you.

Its not the fixing that's the hard part, its knowing what needs fixing.
