Hi All/Mods

Just want to let you know guys they are going for free monthly not bi-monthly ezines.
As they said:

"Hakin9 magazine is from now on a FREE, MONTHLY, ONLINE publication.

Due to a great interest in Hakin9 magazine coming from all over the world we
decided to go digital and make the magazine free.

All you need to do in order to get a new issues each month is subscribe to our newsletter.

Those of you who are on the list, just need to wait few more weeks!

The first issue will be released on April 30th."

The only problem here is that I paid last December I should get my money back hmmm  Huh oh well cheers for all!!!

I may be wrong on this (first time for everything), but I'm not viewing this as a positive thing. As a general rule (with some notable exceptions (linux)), free != quality.

I too would say free!=quality, but I'd also say commercial!=quality. Of course a paid publisher will probably put more efforts in editorial, proof-reading, and similar stuff, but there are quite a few books and articles published which are lacking in all of them, unfortunately. Personally I think that most is up to the author - if a person can't explain himself in a way which is comfortable to others, the outcome will probably not be good - even if the author is very knowledgeable. Only because someone knows much it doesn't mean that he is a good author, imho.

Maybe we can merge this thread with this one..?

my thoughts exactly (see post above). Even though i really think this could work, i hope it will not have any influence on the quality of the magazine. If they keep their sponsors (through adverts) they will still be able to perform some control on subjects and quality. Given this format i dont think (and hope) there will be any changes regarding quality.

Just an update on this, for some reason it seems that they have changed their minds on the whole free thing. Downloading the mag now requires a subscription of some sort...
