I've been looking for a local security group that meets regularly, but haven't been able to find one.   It seems like all security groups and conferences take place at either one of these cities and skip everything in between.

Does anyone have any advice for starting a local information security group?

Be careful - next thing you know some of those security guys would start making use of those WAN IP Cameras & start charging people to view what's going on  Wink

No - but seriously, I'd attempt to contact the local Linux Groups to see if they're interested in starting a security group. It's common that the Linux guys are into security  Cool

first of all, where do you live and what do you expect from these security groups? if your looking for people with the same interest you have in technology and hacking you can start with going to hackerspaces:

http://hackerspaces.org/wiki/

also the 2600 phreakers group has a chapter in almost every big country??

try hooking up, and go to meetings/conferences/workshops! see and be seen!

Where are you located? Is there an ISSA chapter in your area?
