dynamik, worse I've been accused of lately is trying to steal their personal passwords and other private information. (Because I'm putting new network monitoring tools in, replacing other ones that did most of the same stuff as now).

Ew, that's no bueno (and difficult to laugh off). I'd just give them a high-level overview of what you're doing so they're not terrified of your voodoo. I'd also speak about your ethics and how 1) something like that would violate your personal code and 2) how your reputation would be tarnished in the industry. It should be pretty clear you have no interest in stealing their personal information.

Not even putting a sniffer on the network. Closest I'm getting is ntop. Doesn't mean I couldn't do it if I wanted to, but have no desire too. Then again, I could have done it for the last 3.5 years I've been there.
Mostly I just laughed when the PM asked me about it. Pointed out I could have been doing that the entire time I was there. Didn't need these servers. Haven't heard anything since.
