Hello, I'm new to the forum, hope you can help.  Wink

I want to test how strong my home network security is by performing a controlled DoS and maybe a Buffer Overflow attack on the network.

DO I need VMWare for this?  ???I am not sure where to start to be honest. I have one wireless broadband router providing 2 Windows Vista PCs with connections via WAP. I also have a wireless laptop, I could use to mount the attack.

I did this at Uni once, but the environment was different. Undecided

You just need an attacking system from the outside (if that's where you plan to attack from). You could do this by attaching to the external nic of whatever your border device is. If you're testing on the inside, then you just need something to attack with (VM or physical). Or you could use your wireless laptop and connect through wireless and see how far you can get (simulating someone getting onto your wifi).

Just curious but what do you want to achieve exactly when performing a DoS attack on your home network?

Did you implement any specific countermeasures for such a scenario?
