More interviewing skills on display by our friend, Jason Haddix of Security Aegis. If he keeps this up, we may just have to make him our roving reporter with a regular column doing many more interviews with those who create the courses and train the security stars of tomorrow. What do you EH-Netters out there think of more interviews?

Review by Jason Haddix

If anyone hasn't seen or used The Academy Pro, then you're missing out on an incredibly valuable resource. Peter Giannoulis and friends have put together 400+ videos on setting up and using optimally all our *favorite* security technologies. Need to set up IronPort? They have a video. GFI Languard? They have a video, too. Need pentest tool tips? They have over 70 different VA/Pentest video tutorials. Heck, they have our Security Aegis videos.

Last month, Peter started the buzz on a new training class he will be offering. It’s called eLearnSecurity. So far we know it has about 2000 slides of theory and practical application, plus 5 hours of unreleased video. The class promises to be affordable and have some awesome labs.

Nice work as usual Jason.

One aspect I couldn't find in the interview or on the elearnsecurity site is the cost of the courses, anyone know a ball park for what 'affordable' will be?

I don't want to get too excited if it's out of my budget.

Hello all,
My name's Armando Romeo,
I'm the founder of the eLearnSecurity project.

What's your budget Andrew ?  Smiley

Prices will be released soon. We will have a very very affordable version for students: these are college students, or  professionals entering the IT Security field who can't afford spending thousand dollars on a 5 days training session but still wanting a complete distance learning course.

This will be a stripped version, as it will not include some of the great features (and advanced topics) of the Professional version.

But, even the Professional version, will have a lower price than all the other similar online courses.

Please feel free to ask for more information here, or follow us on Twitter where we disclose more details day by day.

Thanks EthicalHacker.net !

@Armando: Is it planned to offer discounts for the Pro version for students as well?

Hi awesec,

We are giving a 20% discount to the first 50 who submit their email address on www.elearnsecurity.com. This discount will apply only to the Professional version, and students are very welcome.

(Professional and Student versions are just names to differentiate the two offers! We do not limit the purchase of the Student by professionals and vice versa)

My aim is to have deals with colleges and universities to provide our Professional version to their students at a discounted rate.
At now we don't have planned discounts for students to buy the Professional version.

I advise you to reserve your discount now by entering your email address. You will also discover the authors panels and prices before anyone else.

Now I don't want to sound rude, but as Andrew stated is there currently a ballpark area for price.  I feel that the OSCP is very affordable at around $500.  Are we talking around that area?  Also would you be able to go into more detail in what is lost by not sigining up for the Professional course.

@steven1664 I understand your point.

We love OSCP and Backtrack. I use Backtrack everyday.
But in my opinion a real Professional, should know what those tools are doing, what are the techniques involved, what's the theory involved before playing with tools.

If you're not just a Penetration Tester, but instead you are called to provide solutions to your customers, you need to deeply understand the Threat in all its parts.

We aim at providing a strong strong grasp of the techniques and then hands on exercises through labs that also use, among the other tools, Backtrack tools.

Moreover, we aim at helping Pen testers on:
1) Using a rigorous methodology
2) Reporting their findings effectively

The above two points, along with the forementioned understanding of the threats, makes the difference between an amateur who fires up a live distro  and a professional.

We are talking about a different kind of course.
Yes,  the Professional version, will be in that range of price.

The Student course will be much cheaper, without videos and without most advanced techniques (writing Rootkits, remote shell, reporting...).
