Alright guys.  It's been a while since I had to bust an excel sheet password.  One of my bosses locked himself out of a .xlsx (2007) excel doc and needs the pass cracked or removed off of it.  Any tips for a good program that isn't coming from china or russia with extra love?

You could try this, I have no idea if its any good, nor if its made in Russia or China (greetings comrades!), but it does say no shareware and no demoware, ie: 100% freeware.

It's a Office Brute Forcer by the looks of it..

All the other ones look like they cost money, being on Linux limits my experience of having to recover MS-Office passwords as I use Open Office instead and I have never taken the time to password protect something, when I just encrypt it with my PGP key's instead. Smiley

Elcomsoft's stuff is good, and comes with a free demo.

I second JHaddix, I've used Elcomsoft products before and they are good.   If you have access to Access Data's decryption suite, it works pretty well too.   It's not going to have any extra love.   It's from the makers of FTK.

Hi 4sh,

I've got an Excel worksheet password cracker macro that might help. I can't remember where I got it from and who to credit for it.  I used it once and it worked for me. It is just a brute-force password cracker but hopefully will work for you.

Here's the code:
Code:
Sub PasswordBreaker()
    'Author unknown
    'Breaks worksheet password protection.
Dim i As Integer, j As Integer, k As Integer
Dim l As Integer, m As Integer, n As Integer
Dim i1 As Integer, i2 As Integer, i3 As Integer
Dim i4 As Integer, i5 As Integer, i6 As Integer
    On Error Resume Next
    For i = 65 To 66: For j = 65 To 66: For k = 65 To 66
    For l = 65 To 66: For m = 65 To 66: For i1 = 65 To 66
    For i2 = 65 To 66: For i3 = 65 To 66: For i4 = 65 To 66
    For i5 = 65 To 66: For i6 = 65 To 66: For n = 32 To 126
    ActiveSheet.Unprotect Chr(i) & Chr(j) & Chr(k) & _
        Chr(l) & Chr(m) & Chr(i1) & Chr(i2) & Chr(i3) & _
        Chr(i4) & Chr(i5) & Chr(i6) & Chr(n)
    If ActiveSheet.ProtectContents = False Then
        MsgBox "One usable password is " & Chr(i) & Chr(j) & _
            Chr(k) & Chr(l) & Chr(m) & Chr(i1) & Chr(i2) & _
            Chr(i3) & Chr(i4) & Chr(i5) & Chr(i6) & Chr(n)
         Exit Sub
    End If
Next: Next: Next: Next: Next: Next
Next: Next: Next: Next: Next: Next
End Sub

It's not pretty but hey... it might just do the job.

I agree with Elcomsoft's products, used it also one or two times successfully. Could you already try it or solve your problem otherwise?

Too bad is it an Office 2007 document, they actually use real encryption now unlike in the older versions.
