Guys a quick question....

I am planning to take up the "Pentesting with BackTrack" (previously known as Offensive Security 101) course. But I dont have very good networking knowledge. I am more into system administration. I have 3+ years exp Linux sys admin and around 2+ exp in Windows servers.

I also have a good knowledge about TCP/IP protocol.

Do you guys think I am eligible to take up this course?

Hello Mux,
I haven't done OSCP myself yet, but from what I have heard and read about it and considering your experience, I would say you have everything needed to get a lot out of it. This means if you are already interested in OSCP by yourself and want to get into it, I see no reason why you would not be eligible for it.

You will be fine. The admin experience and knowledge of the TCP/IP protocol will come in handy also. When I did it I didn't have any network experience either and I didn't have an issue.

There is also a little bit of programming involved. Not a whole lot but just enough. So you will be required to look at lines of source code and make modifications etc. Or come up with your own kind a thing.

But you will be fine. The guys in the offsec channel on irc will be more than helpful. If you have any other questions let me know.

Mux,

I'd agree with Dark_knight and Awesec, sounds like you should have enough of a background to handle the material. With the server experience that you have the networking prerequisites shouldn't be a problem for you.

However as Dark_Knight mentions there is some programing involved, which if it's not something your've done before may take some additional time to learn the basics. Again though the programming requirements are quite basic, and explained well in the course material (imo), but I had some programming skills before taking OSCP so your mileage may vary.

It is a great course, if you're up for the challange and are willing to put in the required workload you'll do well. If all else fails you can always 'try harder' Smiley Good luck
