Information security for your community

I've been thinking for a while about the idea of running short, free security education classes for home users. Something along the lines of 30 minute sessions on wireless security, securing your home PC that sort of thing. My plan is to create a simple set of notes to give a practical and unified approach to end user education.
Firstly does this material already exist? I don't see the point of reinventing the wheel. If not what topics ought to be covered?

I have actually done this a couple times. Basically took out an ad in the paper, printed and handed out fliers and used word-of-mouth to provide notice. I also worked with the local police department as well.
They were a little longer than 30 minutes (usually a couple hours) and covered other topics (identity theft and child safety).
If you want, I can send you the slides or outline and you can take from it what you want.

Hiya Jim,
I have done something kinda similar. I do work with IT4Communities which does IT stuff for charities.
There are also local learn direct type places that might like your skills.
My time lately has been making the time available to do the charity stuff.

Thanks for the responses guys. Those slides sound like a good start, thanks for that BillV. I have signed up for the IT4communities newsletter but have yet to go any good works.
My end goal is to come up with good quality material for presentations and flyers so others can run similar courses and share the love. I'll no doubt be looking the EH.net for peer review, content and general good sense.
Cheers,
Jimbob

Jimbob,
I've been thinking about something similar in my area but in all honesty hadn't been able to think of a decent way to break into the area. Didn't know about IT4Communities, just had a look at their site and it seems promising (thanks Dale).
If you get any material together and want a second opinion (or assitance with creating material in the first instance) let me know as I'd be willing to help share the workload if I can

When i was at DEFCON this year they did presentation on hackerspaces. I would contact them as one of their most successful chapters was a hackerspace that did free IT work for a church that hosted them and setup free wi-fi for the surrounding neighborhood =) Im not sure it might have been hakdc..

Nice idea you have there, jimbob. If you want someone to get through your materials for reviewing let me know, would be more than glad if I could help.
30 minutes is not long though, but it should at least be enough to raise awareness and offer enough resources for further researches if your attention is seriously interested.
