Hmmmm, interesting. I have a new customer, not sure what her handicap is, she walks on crutches. Just returned her HP notebook today after upgrading her from XP Home to XP Pro, and removing a virus she picked up. She's connecting via her modem, she can't afford her DSL anymore. Her main interst on Internet seems to be Yahoo! chat. I tried to warn her about chatting, but that's what she wants. Tried to interest her in Forums, but she wants chatting.

Oh well, people will do what they want.

Especially those who are hopelessly addicted to chatting.  Is that how she picked up her virus?

Probably. But she told me she bought the computer used from someone else, so who knows for sure?

I installed on her machine MacAfee Virsuscan Enterprise v.8.0i. I got the disk when I was doing a virus removal for [name witheld] last Sept 05. Seems [name witheld] had a mass virus infection, 7000 machines nation wide. They sent me to the location closest to hy home, which was nice. 1 mile from home. So they gave me their "customized" version of VirusScan, with a "perpetual" license. This version is not supposed to prompt for the annual renewal fee to download the latest DAT files, but instead it downloads them and installs automatically. I was suppsoed to return it to them at the end of the project, but they never asked me to return it, so I still have it. They've likely forgotten about it now, being back in Sept. 05.
Seems to work fine, I have it insalled on all my machines.

On this customers machine, I ran VirusScan scan twice, cause the first time it ran I got impatient with it and messed it up. 2nd time I ran it, it took 3.5 hrs. But both times it ran, it found the same Trojan, Cslam, which according to def page on Macafee website is a password stealer. VirusScan SAYS it deleted it.

But customer's main problem right now is that she has to use her modem to connect, and uses NetZero for her ISP, cause it's cheap. But she seems preoccupied with Yahoo! chat. Oh well. I also installed for her Office 2000 SBE, ad-aware, Windows defender, as well as upgrading her from XP Home to XP Pro. Just charged her $100.00, cause I believe computer repairs should be affordable. Besides, she is obviously handicapped, walking with crutches, and all. Money has got to be as tight for her as it is with me.

Fees charged by computer stores to repair computers are outrageous. I charge what SHOULD be charged for repairs, without messy things like overhead, paying employees, rent, profit, etc.

Life is tough, computer repairs should not be, as well.
