Just wanted to make you all aware, if you already weren't, that there is a new Pentoo release out.  Looks really good and I hope to play around with it a little more.

Hmm, I think I may have looked at an older version of that one in the past, can't quite remember. I definitely don't recall it being anywhere near recent. Is this the first update they've put out in a while? Will certainly take a glance at it when I have some free time. Thanks!

It is, like you said, the first release in a LONG time.  On their main page, they discuss that a little more in depth.  I'm alway happy though to see an old distro brought back to life.   Grin

Nat having used Pentoo (or even heard of it until now), does it do anything that Backtrack <insert-latest-version> doesn't? I don't want to slate the distro, I just want to know if it's worth a look or not.

It surely didn't used to... perhaps this new version will be fairly decent. I did catch something on the main page though...

Kudos also goes out to :
    * Melissa Holmes for the awesome graphics.
    * Portswigger for letting us include burpsuite in the build
    * Chris and Joe from LSO for helping us improve pentoo.
    * All the beta testers. Thank you guys, your job means a lot to us!

So maybe once Chris is around, he can give us some info about it Smiley

Good question, but I've not really played around with it enough yet to see.  I just wanted it to be known about, because I know that I love just trying out any new pen testing or forensic testing available.  How it stacks up to Backtrack, we'll have to see.  Especially with 4 hopefully coming soon.

Thanks for the info, haven't heard of it before either. Though I appreciate it to have such distros available, I still prefer to use my own setup and configurations. Although BackTrack and others offer a good deal of tools and other useful stuff, I think that they have often more than actually needed - or miss some things. Maybe it's just because I am not too familiar with BackTrack (and others).
One of the big advantages using already existing security distros is that you don't need to spend much time on putting everything together though.

I wanted to bump this thread in hopes of an answer.
