Little hint...

If the IT Pro Track is full, then just register for the Developer Track. And vice versa. Once you get in the event, you can hop around and see presentations in both tracks. It's been this way for launch events for years. They try to keep an even attendance to fill both tracks, but the IT Pro usually fills up much faster than the dev track.

That way you get your free copy. ;-)

Another way to get a free copy of Windows 7 is when one is a student with MSDNAA (Microsoft Developer Network Academic Alliance ) access. MSDNAA is a program between Microsoft and international universities, which allows to use Microsoft Software for free.

Since 14. August, Windows 7 RTM-Version (Ready to Manufacture), including license key, is available for download.

Just for information sharing purposes, I ran W7 RC on one of my boxes with no issues.
Now running W7 RTM 32 and 64 bit, and occassionaly Windows Explorer crashes, forcing an application restart.

Obviously RTM isnt a GOLD release, so few patches to come in the future, just thought I would share.

Thanks for the tips guys!

The Windows 7 tracks by me were already all filled up Sad I was able to select a Server 2008 developer track for the morning and a Server 2008 IT Pro track for the afternoon. So hopefully I'll still be able to hunt down a copy.

awesec, no MSDNAA account for me... although I do have a DreamSpark account, but they typically only put out server systems there. I'll have to check into that though.

dale, I've also been hearing some good things from a couple of friends that are running RTM. Not sure whether they're running 32 or 64 bit. The one screenshot someone sent me looked like a Mac with all the little icons floating at the bottom.... they all seem to like it though.

I have to work a lot with Vista and 7 beside some other OS and prefer 7 as well. Hope that it will be soon officially supported by VMWare too as it crashes at a regular basis during some of my tests.

We've been playing around with Windows 7 too.  We found that it "hesitates" much less than Vista does.   Vista has annoying habit of caching file counts, and extraneous information when you are doing something as simple as moving files around.   It's network performance is also quite bad.   

Most of our clients and ourselves skipped Vista entirely.   From what I have seen so far, we will not be skipping Windows 7.   I will likely have to a wait a while myself to install on any production machines as security tools and forensics tools will likely have some compatibility issues.

Bummer, the one near me coincides with me being gone on vacation. Ah well, maybe next OS Tongue I am liking 7 much better than vista as well. I've actually bothered to put it on a piece or real hardware, where vista only rated a vm.

From what I read... the UK is getting Windows 7 at 1/2 the cost here in the US.  Tongue None the less, if a couple copies fall into my lap I may pm you.
