folks,

I did extraction via lophtcrack v6.0 to get the password hashes via a Windows 2008 server. However the results of the hashes are for NTLM, and lophtrcrack does "brute-force" the Windows 2008 passwords, but not via Rainbow tables, anyone know what other tools out there that can crack Windows 2008 NTLM password without brute forcing it as it's taking a long time.?

Even those tables downloaded using torrent are Lanman type.

Cheers.

You can try dictionary attacks.

NTLM rainbow tables do exist, but only for a certain number of characters.

They would be too big and take too much time to generate for the up to 128 character password that can be used.

I'm sure there are plenty of places to find that. This just isn't one of them.

Maybe John the Ripper would be a free alternative for you.

yes, because what I can foresee that everyone will move to Windows 2008, and since it uses NTLM, it's going to be harder to crack, unless you have a rainbow tables for NTLM hashes. that should speed up the work!  Cool

I actually like it, and quite a bit.  Hyper-V is a pretty decent product.   Terminal Services has been improved.  The OS is also very stable in x64 editions.

Finally got the opportunity to test it out a little - works like a charm. Though it might be a little expensive for a private person it is at least for companies interesting.

Ophcrack but you'll need to download the rainbow tables, the smallest load is approx 622mb works well. Wink

I'm still in the midst of downloading 120GB of LM hash from the torrent, now about 74% in progress!

the NTLM which will be more important is to get something for password which are minimum 8 characters with password complexity (or so they said, I've audited companies which says their password is complex, but if you don't crack it , you won't know the result and show it back to them, they'll be amazed what you can do).

In view of Win2008 is heading to NTLM, best to get a set of table ready for this.  Grin
