Hello,

My name is Mark. I've recently began my learning more about networking & Pen testing. I wish to expand my knowledge in ethical hacking.

So I ask you guys, if anyone would be my teacher. I am willing to pay for you help via MSN 'lessons'. Anything would help really, even advice on what to learn.

Its important to understand i'm only 18 & only have prior knowledge in PC & Network security ( Firewalls, IDS, Spyware & malware prevention, etc, etc). That was very easy to learn, as you can learn it anywhere.

If you are intrested, please contact me via here & msn.

Have a happy Holiday weekend!

I don't think you will find here a serious person willing to help you this way. If you are willing to spend money why not take one of the available courses such as from SANS?

As awesec replied, you won't find anyone willing to teach you here.
I would suggest you to read counter hack reloaded by Ed Skoudis. It'll give you a nice foundation. You could practice the tools in the book on a virtual lab and in a few months you'll be pretty confident

Hello,

I've already looked at 'LearnSecurityOnline', however I could not see anything that could help.

Can someone recomend what to learn & read? I've learned the basics of networking (topology, TCP/IP & Ports).

There are plenty of threads and posts with the same and similar questions already available at the forums. Try to search for some of them. Wink

If you can't come to the idea by yourself to use the search function or even Google for such common questions it seems not to be useless at all. Your questions have been answered a thousand times from different people all over the world, so why don't you read those and ask for specific questions if you have any? It would be already enough to search this forums as you will find already here quite a few threads which covers your questions and more.
You didn't even wrote in what areas specifically you are interested - ethical hacking and penetration testing is just something to summarize many different topics with one term.

If you can't search by yourself you won't hardly suceed in the area of penetration testing at all.

Jesus, Chill out bud. Take it easy.

I just don't like responces 'Use search box' - Trust me; I have. Google, obviously. As I said in my first post, I have googled it. So if you're going to leave half-ass replies, don't reply at all.

You obviously have not tried hard enough.

If you're willing to pay someone, yet can't find something at LSO for what you need - I think you have a problem.

You've already been given plenty of suggestions, surprising you received those with your attitude....

I suggest you take a step back and think before you post again.

Think about your half-ass question before you start attacking forum members.  We are security professionals.  Nobody here was spoon fed their knowledge and I do not believe you would find anyone willing to be paid to train you.  Trainers get paid a lot of money for their time and effort.  Our knowledge comes from training, reading, lectures, setting up labs, and asking specific questions.  So, since nobody in the thread is willing to train you, just take their suggestions.

Awesec offered a very good suggestion.  Rather than reinventing the wheel, look around the forum for what other people have suggested to people who want to start out.  Similar people have asked the exact same questions you have.

My recommendation is to review the articles/interviews/reviews by Don, http://www.ethicalhacker.net/content/category/7/15/24/.  There is a wealth of knowledge from the industries top professionals like Ed Skoudis, HD Moore, and Johnny Long, as well as a great primer on a DIY career.

Good luck!

Mark,

welcome to the forum. You got off to a rocky start, but all the people here are good knowledgable people, and they are right to some extent you do have to help yourself.

What I suggest is if you can post abit about your background, are you a student, are you working in IT, what are your career aspirations, what do you mean by ethical hacking as you understand it.

My opinion is it takes along time to become established and experianced in any trade, and InfoSec is an excellent example. Personally I think InfoSec relies on many basic fundamentals, and the answer to become an ethical hacker doesnt mean you go from Zero to r00t 0wnage dude.

So take a breather, post some more information, show respect to the others and you will be shown the same. If your having some trouble with the searching, perhaps once we know what your looking for we can recommend some appropriate search strings.
