I think that this is aimed at a pretty young crowd (high school age perhaps?) but it sounds like anyone can participate.

Cyber Contest - NetWars

Quote
You are invited to be one of the pioneers in the US Cyber Challenge or to invite your kids or co-workers to participate! You’ll be involved in the first NetWars competition the last two weeks June 22-29. It takes only a few hours to play and is designed to help identify future cyber security experts and warriors as part of the US Cyber Challenge.

One hundred invited players will be allowed to participate in this first round. These first players will demonstrate skills in network defense and offense, and also to help us get the game right for thousands of people to play when it goes live on a much larger scale later in the summer.

NetWars – SANS’ Capture the Flag Competition Designed to Identify Future Security Experts

...

If you show promise as a possible future cyber security expert, you can win recognition, prizes, scholarships and opportunities to learn more at cyber camps designed to take your skills to the next level. NetWars is just the first step in the process, but players who do well here and go on to demonstrate extraordinary talent by excelling in other competitions and training programs and tests may look forward to being considered for important internships at America’s top cyber-security organizations.
