This is just a list. This is not Academy Award winning stuff, but if you like computers and tech, this is the list for you.

Antitrust – Ryan Phillippe (Open Source) vs. Tim Robbins (Gates-ian character).
Enemy of the State – Will Smith and Gene Hackman in good techno-paranoia-thriller.
Hackers – Cheesy but must have on the list.
The Net – Sandra Bullock: ‘nuff said.
Pirates of Silicon Valley – Fictional rendition of MS (Gates) vs. Apple (Steve Jobs) in the early days both stealing from Xerox.
Sneakers – Old school tiger team and pen testers. Great cast.
Track Down – Fictional (and I stress fictional) version of Takedown, Shimomura’s book on himself and Mitnick.
Tron – Way ahead of its time video game movie with Jeff Bridges.
War Games (and the ever rumored WarGames II) – Classic that started it all with Matthew Broderick.

Let us know some of your favorite computer, hacking or just good tech movies. Don't forget to let us know what you think of some of the movies on the list by starting new topics.

Usually we see the movie Swordfish pop up in these kinds of lists. The movie is crap but it does try to make the hacker look cool, lol.   On the other hand the movie "Score" with Robert  De Niro shows hackers in a totally different way. Not really a hacker movie but its worth watching just to see the hacker in his late twenties living in his mother's basement playing Unreal Tournament and then hacking when he gets asked to, all the while screaming at his mother, Ha Ha! Oh and the systems admin thats sells the passwords so that thieves can get in is classic. Worth watching the movie just for that.  Grin

Score is one of my favorite "stealing things" movies. The hacker kid is hysterical.

Cheers for the list Don, couple missing from my collection I'll need to take a look at (Sneakers, TrackDown and Tron).

Think I'll pass on discussing the virtues of various films that didn't make the list, can get uglier than the OS holy wars at times Wink....

No prob. Glad to help us all waste time... uh hm learn while being entertained.  Wink

As for movies not on the list, by all means... add to it. Start new threads on the movies you know, whether you liked them or not, if they influenced you in any way, etc.

What about...

Die Hard 4 (Live Free or Die Hard)
Perfect Stranger (only seen it once, but I recall there being some computer hacking/related stuff in it)
Mission Impossible

Is The Net the one where she has some kid (apx. 15 y/o, nerdy, glasses, talks with lisp and has some attraction to her) help her hack into stuff? Or am I thinking of something else?

Wargames 2 does look interesting, but we will have to see if its more about being a great online gamer rather than a great hacker. I hope its the later. I also noticed no one has mentioned the movie Untraceable so far, which is fine by me that no one has, lol!

It's mentioned in another thread. This was simply one of the first posts on this Board to get the conversation (and other threads) going.

Think the Net was a dodgy Sandra Bullock film, she reverse engineered a virus  and some shadowy organisation tried to kill her her and/or stole her identity so she couldn't tell anyone. Can anyone confirm?

Wargames2 looks good though....
