Sounds like the movie Ransom with Mel Gibson where he did the same thing by basically turning the tables on the criminals. It's incentive for someone to turn on another in the crime group, but it could go either way. You could have the hands-on tech guy turn on the mastermind or vice versa. Either way, it really messes with their heads.
