Hello,

I'm working now as an IT Security Analyst in a public company and would one day like to make the move into CYBER SECURITY. I've always been interested in this and wanted to know if someone could give me some career advice as to how they've made a transition. I'm constantly reading about new threats to our government from cyber space and would like to lend a hand in securing it. Any information on certifications or positions would be very helpful.

Hmm, I thought I replied to this already but maybe I forgot to 'post'?

Anyway, you might want to check out http://www.usajobs.gov (assuming you're in the US) and search for 'INFOSEC' positions.

That should get you started in the right direction.

BillV,

Thanks for the response - I checked out the site you were talking about and was wondering if you knew of any positions of this nature in New York. The majority of these are in or around the Washington, Virginia, Maryland area. Which makes sense.

When you say you are working as an analyst, what exactly do you mean?  That title carries a lot of different meanings depending on your organization.  The reason I'm asking is you should first do some research to figure out what area of security you'd like to move into?  For started, do you want to be on the keyboard or do you want to be on the business side?  The guys on the keyboard have the sexier job (Ima 'l33t haxor!), but the guys on the business side might have been career options in the long run.  (CIO, CISO, CTO, IT Aduit/Risk manager, etc)  It's all dependent on where you'd like to end up.
