In the fall issue of the McAffe Security Journal is an article on the future of social engineering:

Quite a bit of the article is a rehash of current issues, but the authors do predict the rise of for-profit vandalism against companies (a similar concept to ransomware) to carry out attacks like deliberate crashing of stocks, etc... A good (but accidental) example of this sort of thing happening was in the news a couple months back:
