Hi,

This looks like a friendly place and a really good place to learn.   I'm involved in anti-fraud research [the Nigerian scam variety] and I wanted to expand my relatively limited knowledge of hacking to become more effective.   Some of the anti-fraud sites I frequent were targeted for DDOS in recent months, so that's another reason I want to gain a deeper understanding.

Indeed. I just reread it again a few months back. Got on a Gibson kick and read a bunch of them. Then I got to Spook Country and it put me off of him again.

Only reason I haven't read Spook Country yet is fear of it sucking, would I be safer pretending it doesn't exist?

I got maybe %25 of the way through and put it down, which is something that I almost never do. Saying that it sucked would be generous. It's actually quite a bit further down than sucked. With the aid of a very powerful telescope, it might be able to see a faint glimmering of where it would need to be to suck. And I didn't really care for it either.

I'm assuming the confusion comes from the jump between my praise for the 'wintermute' handle and Jason discussing Gibson? If so Wintermute is a rogue AI program in Neuromancer...

If your confused by something else then I'm confused also Wink
